How to install, use, and automate watch faces

Adding a new watch face

You can quickly* create your custom watch face with something to memorize in a few simple steps. If you want to change its design, layout**, or word pairs, simply create a new one.

*Please note, on Apple Watch 4 or older syncing any watch faces with iPhone is not instant (it can take up to 1-3 minutes). If still not syncing, please check standard watch faces sync first.

**Important note: to install "Portrait" type of watch face, Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch 4 or newer with watchOS 8 or newer are required

Using watch faces on Apple Watch

You can easily switch between added words by clicking on Apple Watch screen or just lowering and raising you wrist (the words are shuffled through automatically). You can also swipe to switch watch faces*, so you don't need to ditch your favourite standard ones.

*with watchOS 10 and newer, you need to enable this feature on Apple Watch βŒšοΈβ—οΈin Settings β†’ Clock β†’ "Swipe to Switch Watch Face"

Using automation shortcuts

1

Add at least 1 watch face from the WordFace app

2

Import a shortcut into the Shortcuts app

3

Run a shortcut once to give the necessary permissions

4

Run a shortcut in one of the following ways (videos below):

πŸ“±β†’βŒšοΈ configure a shortcut to run on the Automation tab in the Shortcuts app

⌚️ add to your current watch face on Apple Watch as a complication*

πŸ“±β†’βŒšοΈ add as a widget on your iPhone

πŸ—£οΈ run with Siri

*Apple Watch 4 or newer with latest watchOS are recommended

Adding shortcuts on the Automation tab – scheduling watch faces

Adding shortcuts as complications* – a quick glimpse of your custom watch face

*Important note: users on all watchOS 10 versions had troubles finding Shortucts - specific shortcut complications (which should be shown when you configure watch faces' complications on Apple Watch ⌚️). This watchOS 10 bug can be temporarily fixed: on your iPhone go to Watch β†’ Clock β†’ turn off and on "24-Hour Time". Then try to find Shortucts - specific shortcut complications on your Apple Watch again

Word pairs import

Starting with WordFace version 1.1, you can now import word pairs by either using input window or importing .txt / .rtf file. To use import, separate words with either semicolon or hyphen symbols, for example:

Text1-Translation1
Text2;Translation2

With any import method, please note that - and ; symbols will always be considered as separators, therefore avoid using them in word pairs (for example, you can use dash – instead of hyphen ).

WordFace FAQ

❗️Please use the latest watchOS and iOS version to avoid problems with syncing

❗️WordFace version 1.1.2: fixed watch faces sync on old Apple Watch models (tested on Apple Watch 3 with watchOS 8 and iOS 18)

No, it is not WordFace app fault (you can also check standard watch faces sync first). This is because sometimes syncing between iPhone and Apple Watch is very laggy. If you are using old Apple Watch (series 4 or older), this is expected behaviour, just wait 1-3 minutes and watch faces should sync.

If you hate experience like this, please don't hesitate to remind Apple that their products do not meet "100% satisfaction level" as they often say, and please leave feedback here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/watch/

This is because there is a "Portrait" type of watch face. Currently, there are 3 available types in the app: Photos watch face 1 (time on top), Photos watch face 2 (time in the bottom), and Portrait watch face. For Portrait watch face Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch 4 or newer with watchOS 8 or newer are required.

If you want to choose another layout or edit words in your watch face, just add another watch face. For that you need to edit your watch face in WordFace (tap pencil icon) and then tap "Save". After that WordFace will automatically open it in Watch app again so that you could add a new watch face.

❗️watchOS 10 and earlier: you can also tweak watch face design in Watch app itself, this includes wallpaper tint and editing widgets.

This is a known Watch app bug. Watch face preview may be different, but watch face itself will be correct.

I originally conceived WordFace to be a helpful utility for forced refugees from Ukraine after russian full-scale invasion. Many people fled to English-speaking countries, therefore for these people there's a clear need to learn new words, and fast. This is why the app UI is available in Ukrainian and russian, however the app can also be useful for people worldwide (hence, also in English).

You can use WordFace to learn any language or memorize anything that is important to you.

Just choose "Lifetime" and press "Continue" again (or close this window), full version will be unlocked automatically. You will not be charged second time.
